Culinary Demonstrations

The WVU Healthcare Culinary Program provides for:

  • Market customers to sample local, seasonal food with examples of how to use products at home
  • Showcasing local chefs and strengthening their bond to market farmers and food
  • Displaying chef’s talents, promoting local restaurants, and feature cook books and their authors

Notes About the Program

  • The WVU Healthcare Culinary Program is an EDUCATIONAL program, so first and foremost your role at the demo is to teach, using seasonal, local ingredients of your choosing.
  • The goal is to utilize local and seasonal products, which are to be the focus of your recipe. While we appreciate all you do back in your personal/professional kitchens, this is a time to focus on simple recipes using market ingredients that a market customer/home cook can replicate easily.

If you are Chef interested in conducting a culinary demonstration, please contact our Market Manager.

Healthy Lifestyle Activities

People love to visit the Morgantown Farmers Market, not only to shop, but also to have fun, be social, and active! We welcome local fitness instructors/gurus to come and teach a class, do demonstrations, or even a flash mob at our Market! All will be scheduled on a first come first served basis. We provide the space for free, you bring the rest. You are more than welcome to accept donations and give out information about staying active.

~All flash mobs must be scheduled~

Notes About the Program

If you are an instructor/guru interested in teaching/demonstrating at our markets, please contact our Market Manager.

Nonprofits

As part of our ongoing commitment to the community, we allow different nonprofit organizations and community groups to set up, who are interested in holding educational activities, preferably related to sustainable & local agriculture, farming, food, and the environment.

We provide one space each week for free, you bring the rest.

Please note: our non-profits do not have a space under the pavilion, so be sure to bring a canopy.

We are still looking for non-profits to come to either the Saturday or Tuesday markets!

If you are a nonprofit interested in setting up at our markets, please contact our Market Manager.

Nutrition Assistance Programs

SNAP (EBT/Food Stamps)

Our markets accept SNAP a both markets (Morgantown Farmers' Market and Westover Farmers' Market)

Instructions: To use your SNAP, go to the Market Information Booth, tell the staff how much you would like to spend, and they will swipe your EBT card for the amount you request. You're then given your requested amount in $1 plastic tokens.

You may not use your tokens to buy non-food items, and no change may be given.

If you don't use all your tokens that day, you can save them to use another day at either of our markets.

To see if you qualify for EBT/Food Stamps, contact: WV Department of Health & Human Services at (304) 285-3175. For more information or to read the complete USDA SNAP Rules visit www.fns.usda.gov

WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (WIC FMNP)

WIC (Women, Infants and Children) FMNP checks are specifically for purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables at authorized farmers stands.

Instructions: You can also use your WIC FMNP coupons to purchase fresh, unprepared fruits, vegetables and herbs at both of our farmers markets. WIC FMNP coupons may only be used between July 1 and October 30.

For more information about WIC FMNP coupons, contact: Monongalia County Health Department WIC at 304-598-5181 or 1-800-675-5181

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons (SENIOR FMNP)

The purpose of the Senior FMNP is to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to senior citizens. The program expands the awareness and use of farmers markets and also supports and promotes the daily consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. Seniors (60 years plus) who meet the income requirements are eligible to participate in the Senior FMNP. Under the SFMNP, recipients receive checks to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from an authorized farmer's stand; these farmers display a large sign stating that they accept Senior FMNP checks. These checks may only be used between July 1 and October 30.

For information on Senior FMNP coupons, please call: WV Department of Agriculture, Marketing & Development Division at 304-558-2210

It is very important that local, fresh produce is available to all people, regardless of income or stability. Currently we have three programs that help low-income people buy healthy foods at our markets. By accepting SNAP (EBT/Food Stamps), WIC, and SFMNP vouchers, we aim to decrease the access barriers to fresh healthy food.
